Why do we need NEWD?

There are a number of women’s women-focused initiatives or groups within the ski and snowboard community, and they are all working toward the same goal: bring women in snowsports together. NEWD wants to find all of these groups, brands, and organizations and unite them in one place.
FOR INDUSTRY WOMEN
When I was pitching this idea to my peers, I had a short list of women to call. All were enthusiastic, all were supportive.
All FIVE of them.
I started reaching out to other women whom I didn’t know as well, women who had established careers in the snowsports industry. I kept repeating the same thing: how have I been doing this for 15 years and I’ve only met you once?!
We exist, we are just very spread out.
My five female colleagues and I? We share each other’s names constantly.
New job opportunity? Need a product tester? Want someone for a focus group? Call my girl!
We lift each other up every chance we get. But sometimes I wonder: where would we all be if, instead of five of us, there were fifty?
FOR FEMALE CONSUMERS
Your local ski shop should be your trusted expert in picking out gear. You should feel comfortable, unintimidated and excited walking through their doors.
(and if you don’t - we will help you find a new one.)
However, it’s ok to want to feel prepared, do your research, ask your friends.
We really want to know where you go to for that info?
Is there a podcast where you don’t have to wait 30 minutes for a woman’s product to get mentioned? An athlete or ambassador you follow? A media outlet you love?
What’s missing?
What do you wish ski and snowboard designers or marketers understood about you—what you want, what you need, and how you ride?
Consumers shape the future of this industry.
Men’s opinions, reviews, events, and data are everywhere. There are simply more of them talking and feeding that info back to the brands.
Women’s feedback comes from a much smaller dataset.
Let’s start to change that.
